Watercolor Circa XIX Pierre Francois Lehoux Sign Collection C De Jonge

Signed Lehoux and stamp from Jong's collection.
Orientalizing landscape of Toulon.

Pierre-François Lehoux (1803 - 1892) illustrates with his works the beginnings of Orientalism. Inspired by the work of Théodore Géricault, he will finish some of his works when he dies. Pupil of Antoine-Jean Gros and Horace Vernet, he participated in the expedition of Champollion in Egypt and stayed two years there. In January 1827, he began a trip to Syria with Alexandre de Laborde. He exhibits oriental landscapes at the Salon, which contributes to changing the traditional representation of the landscape. Lehoux is buried in Paris at the Père-Lachaise cemetery
