Exceptional work of Marcel ORDINAIRE born in 1848 in Maiziéres (Village on the Loue downstream of Ornans). Pupil of Gustave COURBET. He worked in the master's studio in Ornans in 1872-1873 and then followed him to his exile in Switzerland in Ornans.
Present at the Salon in 1868, he will be there until his death in 1896.
Our painting by Marcel ORDINAIRE is closer to the "Black Well Creek" awarded at the Salon of 1879 (two years after the death of G COURBET) (Museum of Dole (Jura))
The cliffs on the left and in the center of the painting, as well as the house with a steep roof on the left, make it possible to situate the scene on a stream in Scey en Varais.
Gustave COURBET took refuge in this house before exiling himself permanently in Switzerland.
The light and the lively touch reflect the influence and lessons of the master of the realistic landscape.
